Off-road 4×4 · Prague and Plzeň
The Land Cruiser is a legend
Two vehicles for a rocky pass, a gravel track or a shallow ford — and in the evening you sleep in them, in a tent. We drive only on tracks where entry is permitted, and we brief you before you set off.
Toyota Land Cruiser 2.8 D-4D
Why the Land Cruiser is called a legend
The Land Cruiser is the range people have relied on for decades in places where you cannot call a garage. Its reputation rests on getting there and getting back — that is exactly why it is in our fleet.
Ours is the J150 generation, built in 2021: the 2.8 D-4D turbodiesel with 150 kW (204 hp), an automatic gearbox and permanent 4×4 with a differential lock. Low range (L4) and Crawl Control turn a slow rocky descent into routine. Wading up to 450 mm.

- 4×4 with differential lock, L4 low range
- Wading up to 450 mm — roughly to the wheel centre
- Rooftop tent for 2 as an optional extra, tow bar, roof rack
- 5 seats, cool box in the armrest, large boot · deposit 40 000 CZK
Mercedes-Benz X 250d 4×4
The pick-up you sleep on
The Mercedes X 250d is a pick-up with 4×4, 4L low range and a rear differential lock: it copes with muddy gravel and snow, yet drives like a car on tarmac. Wading up to 400 mm.
On the pickup bed we fit a tent for two — you unfold it in a few minutes and sleep above the ground, away from damp. There are no fixed beds; the cab seats five. Deposit 30 000 CZK.
- 4×4 drive, 4L low range, rear differential lock
- Wading up to 400 mm — walking pace only, after checking the bottom
- Pickup-bed tent for 2 as an optional extra (with the tent max. 80 km/h, closed only)
- 5 seats, no fixed beds · deposit 30 000 CZK

Where to go with a 4×4
Czechia has more tracks than you think
Motor vehicles may not enter forests unless a track is expressly open to them. You drive on unpaved public and access roads with no entry ban; in protected landscape areas and national parks, only on roads and marked tracks where entry is permitted.
Šumava (Bohemian Forest)
Roads between Kvilda and Modrava; in the national park and CHKO the car stays on tracks where entry is permitted, beyond that on foot.
Brdy
An hour from Prague; forest tracks in the CHKO are closed to cars, but roads with permitted entry run along the edge.
Ore Mountains
A high plateau, gravel tracks where entry is permitted, and in winter snow that gives a 4×4 something to do.
Jeseníky
Mountain roads and valley tracks with permitted entry; in the CHKO the car stays on roads, the ridges are for walking.
Beskydy
Winding mountain roads all the way to the Slovak border; in the CHKO only on tracks with permitted entry, the huts reached on foot.
Bohemian Switzerland
Roads with permitted entry run along the edge of the national park and CHKO; you explore the rocks and gorges on foot.
And beyond the border?
Gladly, by prior agreement — state your destination in the booking. Permitted are EU/EEA countries, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the Balkans; you arrange foreign tolls and permits yourself, and the off-road rules apply exactly as at home.
4×4 Card
Ten rules of the track
In brief — the full wording is in the 4×4 Card and the rental terms, and we go through them with you before handover.
Tyre pressure — Before off-road driving, lower the pressure to no less than 1.8 bar (then max. 30 km/h); before tarmac, reinflate to 2.6 bar (Land Cruiser) / 2.8 bar (Mercedes X).
4H on loose surfaces only — Mercedes X: engage 4H only on loose or slippery surfaces, never on dry tarmac; the Land Cruiser has permanent 4×4 — on tarmac only with the diff lock off.
Low range when stationary — Engage 4L/L4 low range only when stationary with the lever in N; in low range max. 25 km/h, on unpaved tracks max. 50 km/h.
Diff lock slow and straight — Engage the differential lock only in L4/4L at slow speed in a straight line, and switch it off before the road.
Fords at walking pace — Enter a ford at walking pace only, after checking the bottom, max. 450 mm (Land Cruiser) / 400 mm (Mercedes X); if in doubt, do not drive through, and never stop midway.
Tracks with permitted entry only — Only on public tracks where entry is permitted — not off the track, not in off-road parks or races; in CHKOs and national parks, marked tracks only.
Tent closed, max. 80 km/h — Drive with the tent closed and secured only, at no more than 80 km/h.
Daylight, no steep side slopes — Off-road driving in daylight only, with a side slope of max. 20°; walk an unknown ford first, and fit snow chains in winter where signs require.
Do not tow other vehicles — Do not tow or recover other vehicles; recover your own only via the approved towing eyes and after agreeing with us.
Stuck? Do not dig in. — Stop and do not spin the wheels — rocking max. 3 attempts, no wheelspin longer than 3 s; if that fails, call +420 723 707 958 (24/7) and send your location.
Breaching rules 1, 3 and 5–10 carries a contractual penalty of CZK 13,000 plus full compensation for damage. No protection package covers it. 4×4 Card (PDF)
